[They are also addressed in these words in 2:47,122]

O you the posterity of Iesraa'eel! Recall the special favour which I bestowed upon you people,

and fulfill/discharge your promise/commitment with Me, so that in return I fulfill My word given to you people [since it was conditional/subject to first your discharging of obligation][and are from Root "و ف ی". Perhaps this Root and words made from it are amongst the most debated and disputed ones. But the interesting fact is that Grand Qur'aan has made the perception infolded in this Root abundantly evident and manifest at the very first place it has used it. عَهْدٍ is a promise/commitment/undertaking/responsibility/obligation uplifted by a person himself, it is a burden upon one till such time he puts it down/absolves himself by discharging his commitment/promise undertaking/debt. Fulfilling the promise is segregating/separating/detaching the lifted burden from one's self. In Grand Qur'aan the words made from this Root are used 66 times. It is neither synonym nor synonymous to Root "م و ت" meaning "dead, death, matter void of life-the antonym of life". The result/out come of natural death and getting slain in the cause of Allah is that a person is segregated/separated apart from the company of other people since he is removed and placed into the grave but both are not similar to each other; one is dead while the other is NOT dead, he is living as told by Allah [2:154;3:169] Who knows each and every thing  while we do not know many many things. The basic and most apparent perception and meanings infolded in the Root "و ف ی" is separation/segregation/to apart from the company in whatever context it is used at all these 66 places-For discharge of promise/agreement/commitment/absolving of it 2:177;3:76; 5:01;6:152;7:37; 8:50;9:111;10:46;13:20;17:34;48:10;53:37]

[Same advice in 16:51]o

and fear/be mindful of none but Me exclusively. [2:40]

[Similar invitation in 4:47]

And accept that (Grand Qur'aan) which I have since sent, who/which certifies/sanctifies what is with you people {from Tor'aat} and do not be the first one {amongst people of Book} to disregard that {Qur'aan};

[Same advice to claimants of faith in 5:44]

and do not indulge in business with My Aaya'at {revealed verses; with conjectural stories suited to the desires of people} for a trifling price/gain.

o

 And be mindful/afraid of Me exclusively. [2:41]

[Their clergy and intelligentsia do it, see 3:71]

And nor clothe the Proven Truth [My Aaya'at, any Statement of Fact] with the falsehood/ conjectural stories/scum;
And do not withhold/conceal [from telling the common people] the Truth knowingly.
[2:42]

[Same direction in same words in 2:83,110;4:77;24:56;73:20]

And you people remain steadfast in performing/organizing assembly/standing for As-sa'laat and you give the az-zakat [raiser/up lifter of personality];

o

and you people bow down along with those who bow down. [2:43]

Do you [the people of clergy/men of understanding] direct common people to restrict to good deeds and forget it for yourselves though you read the Book?

[This query is also in  2:76;3:65;6:32;7:169;10:16;11:51;12:109;21:10,67;23:80;28:60;37:138]o

 Is it for the reason that you do not reflect? [to notice this evident contradiction in your behaviour/conduct]? [2:44]

And seek help with patience and performing Ass-sa'laat for uplift and becoming stable personality; though Sa'laat is certainly burdensome upon people except the humble-minded who understand that they have to appear before their Sustainer Lord and that He has to hold them accountable. [2:45-46]

 [Replica 2:122]

O you the posterity of Iesraa'eel! Recall the special favour which I bestowed upon you people and/ whereupon I granted you distinction and individuality upon others [Pharaoh's nation]; [2:47]           [for please see 2:49, 7:141 and 14:06, where it is defined/elaborated]

And remember when We appointed forty nights for Musa [alai'his'slaam],

[Same information in same words in 2:92; similar 4:153]

after a lapse of time, in his absence, after he left [for forty nights] you had adopted a [hand made/sculpted] calf (as  iela'aha),

[Same verdict in same words in 2:92]o

 and you were unjust/wrong-doers/distorters of fact. [2:51]

Afterwards [pursuant upon confronting you to simple evident facts about sculpted calf (refer 7:148; 20:89) you recognized that you had erred, and repented seeking forgiveness (refer 7:149)] We overlooked/pardoned you about it so that you might be grateful. [2:52]

And when {he came leaving you behind) We gave Musa [alai'his'slaam] the Book, a Criterion {to distinguish between right and wrong} so that you people be guided aright. [2:53]

 And when {on his return having been told by Us about your doing in his absence} Musa [alai'his'slaam] said to his people: "O my people! Ye have indeed wronged yourselves by adopting the sculpted calf. For this reason/therefore [for absolving] turn to your Creator seeking forgiveness feeling ashamed/penitently  yourselves; that will be better for you people in the sight of your Sustainer Lord. [You acted on his advice] Thereupon He turned towards you in forgiveness.

Consequently while entering, those amongst them who transgressed, substituted the utterance/word with an utterance/word other than which was prescribed/told to them;

Afterwards you turned back after this covenant. For this reason had it not been for the Grace and Mercy of Allah to you, you would have surely been among the losers. [2:64]

And you have indeed come to know about those from amongst you who transgressed in the matter of Sabbat/rest-no commercial activity. For reason/as a consequence [of their persistently violating the solemn pledge/prohibition-7:166, We discarded and condemned them-refer 4:47 when] We decreed for them "Remain, keep living like despised and rejected monkeys." [2:65]

Consequently We made it an example to their own time and to their posterity,

 and for those, who endeavor remaining cautious, heedful, and mindful avoiding un-restrained conduct, it is a lesson/advice/disclosure of factual outcome of acts/good and bad eventuality. [2:66]

And remember when Musa [alai'his'slaam] said to his people: "Allah has certainly commanded you people that you sacrifice any one ordinary cow/heifer". They said: "Are you taking us with fun/mockery?" He said: "I seek refuge from Allah that I be amongst those who suggest scum/baseless things {attributing it to Allah}" [2:67]

They said to Musa: "Pray/call your Sustainer Lord for us to distinctly explain for us as to what type of cow/heifer is this to be sacrificed? [This is how they change the context and angle of a sentence; they are converting ordinary/any heifer into a peculiar/special heifer] Musa [alai'his'slaam] told them; "He says that the cow should be neither too old nor too young, but in between these two/middle aged. Your query having been answered, therefore, now do what you are being commanded" [here again the "word" of Allah means any middle aged cow/heifer, see their habit/method of , changing the context and angle of word of Allah, in their response to this straightforward/simple words of Allah of unambiguous import][2:68]

They said to Musa: "Pray/call your Sustainer Lord for us to distinctly explain for us as to what is her colour" He said: "He says: She be a cow of bright dark yellow colour,  pleasing/looking original/genuine to onlookers" [2:69]

They said to Musa: "Pray/call your Sustainer Lord for us to distinctly explain for us as to what type of cow/heifer is this to be sacrificed? This peculiar cow {of particulars told here before} has caused us a confusion; and {on receiving clarification} certainly we will be guided, Allah willing. [2:70]

 He told them: "He says that it is a cow which is not subjugated for tilling the soil nor to water the crop fields; a sound one with no spot". They said to Musa: "Now you have come with the distinct/ evident/explicit fact." [note their crookedness; they are giving an impression to the listeners as if they were already ready to obey but he had not explicitly explained earlier-Allah exposes them] It caused/cornered them to sacrifice her, though they had no wish/intention to do it. [2:71]

And when you had murdered a person and then purposefully were diffusing it by controversy among yourselves [High profile murders by the ruling elite/state agencies are diffused for public by deliberate controversies]. But Allah was to bring forth/expose what you were hiding. [2:72]

Therefore [for this reason of exposing] We said commanding; "Move him with some part/piece of her. [murdered person got resurrected/revived to life]. This is how Allah revives the dead into life and shows His signs to your eyes so that you people may reflect/ponder/analyze. [2:73]

[Similar information 5:13;57:16]

Afterwards this event [of seeing the dead resurrected to expose the murderer] your hearts were hardened. They were like stones or rather more hardened [dense, stuck to one place, immovable] than stones;

 since among stones is indeed the one which on slipping/moving away from its place/position lets stream of water gush forth.

 And certainly amongst stones is the one {like Opal} which when ruptures it results in water gets discharged. And certainly among stones is the one which falls/ slips downwards out of fear of Allah.

[This information is also at end of 2:85,140, and 149;3:99]o

 And Allah is never unmindful of what acts you people are doing. [2:74]

[O you who say have believed; despite knowing these facts] Do you still hope and desire that they will accept for you people?

and indeed a group of them listens to the Word/Statement/Message of Allah

[This habit also told in 4:46]o

  and thereafter they deliberately/knowingly alter it out of context in different angle/perspective what was stated after having become aware/understood/saved it in the memory. [2:75]

[Exactly same information about Muna'fi'qeen in 2:14]

And when they confront the ones [whom they regard fools on their back] who have [truly] believed, they say to them, "We have accepted/ believed";

but when some of them go to others [the elders of Jews] in privacy

o

  they question them: "Do you disclose to them [the believers] what Allah has disclosed upon you so that they dilate with you with what is from your Sustainer Lord? Do you not then ponder/reflect? [on this possibility]" [2:76]

[Why they do these tricks} Do they {Muna'afiqeen and learned men of Jews} not know that Allah knows what they conceal and what they reveal/say openly? [2:77]

And among Bani Iesraa'eel are such commoners who do not know [have not read the contents of the revealed] Book, except wishful/hopeful hearsay/conjectural myths made/thrown popular in society

[Same information in same words in 45:24]o

 and/as such that they do nothing except conjecturing/supposing/assuming. [2:78]

[for this reason that commoners are misled by conjectural matter] Therefore woe/regret is for those people [religious elite, scholars] who write the book with their own hands

 and thereafter/afterwards they tell the people [who personally do not have the knowledge of the revealed Book] "this matter/saying/information/rule is from Allah";

so that with it they earn their livelihood/make it a profession/business.

Therefore, woe/regret shall be for them what their hands have written [hypothetical, conjectural hearsay and myths]

o

   and regret will also be for that what they earn [popularity, commercial/financial benefit] by it. [2:79]

 And they tell people: "The Fire shall not touch us except for a period of numbered days" Question them "Have you taken/obtained a promise from Allah? If that is the case there is a reason to believe since [We know] Allah will never do against His promise; or you people attribute to Allah something which you do not have knowledge?" [2:80]

Nay, [their perception/utterance is untrue, no question of release from Hell/Prison] the fact is that whosoever earned evil and remained influenced/encompassed by his wrong-doings;

[Exactly same at end 2:275]o

 for this reason such shall be the persons who will be the residents/inmates of the Hell, they will abide therein for ever. [2:81]
