This verbatim quote of that said to the Angels is with reference to their comment about future course of conduct of Adam. This demonstration showed that they did not have the knowledge of everything. A comment based on some partial information is not truth but merely an opinion. The authenticity or otherwise of an opinion emerges only in future of the moment it is expressed.

    Be informed that He/Allah-the Exalted taught Adam the particular/peculiar names of things, all of them. Afterwards He caused those things put at view before the Angels. Thereupon/for reason He asked them, "You tell Me the names of these things put at your view, if you people were those who narrate the truth-authentic-accurate statement/news"  [2:31]
